Cobra Lady

A sculptural object and an Artist’s Pick, holding the tension between motherhood and selfhood, shedding and strength, vulnerability and power. Her body is finished in metallic silver, while the cobra wraps around her in burnt copper, protective, watchful and fierce. She carries the feeling of becoming someone new without completely losing who you were before. For me, Cobra Lady began with motherhood, and the way change can remake your body, your identity and the way you see yourself. She is a reminder that becoming does not always happen gently, and that there is still beauty in emerging marked by it. She has the weight of a small relic in your hand, something personal enough to keep beside your bed, on a shelf, or in a quiet corner where you will notice her often. Each Cobra Lady comes out of the kiln with her own cracks, marks and surface shifts. These form naturally during firing, so the piece you receive will be one of the individual Cobra Ladies pictured, chosen from the group rather than repeated exactly. That is part of what makes her special. You will not know which one is yours until she reaches you, and the marks she carries will belong only to that piece. For the right person, she will not read as perfection. She will read as truth.
